Michael Autin is a seasoned energy executive with over 45 years of experience spanning operations, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management, and project development across the oil and gas industry. A graduate of Nicholls State University, Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Services (Cum Laude), along with associate degrees in Petroleum Safety and Petroleum Services.

Michael currently leads MJA Energy, LLC as a consultant, where he provides expert guidance in production operations, project execution, HSE compliance, and regulatory affairs. His recent work includes operational due diligence for mergers and acquisitions and managing offshore plug and abandonment (P&A) projects.

Previously, Michael served as Vice President of Production and Senior Vice President of HSE and Asset Assurance at Contango Oil and Gas, Inc. (2012–2025). There, he was instrumental in optimizing production performance, implementing robust HSE policies, and leading development projects from concept to startup with a focus on safety and financial discipline.

His earlier tenure at BHP Billiton Petroleum (2000–2012) saw him managing deepwater Gulf of Mexico operations, including the Neptune Field. He played a pivotal role in developing operations readiness plans for greenfield assets and spearheaded global initiatives in operations and maintenance (O&M), safe systems of work, and competency assurance.

Michael’s leadership journey also includes key roles at British-Borneo America, where he earned national recognition for incident-free operations, and at companies such as Enserch Exploration, Daily Directional Drilling, Union Texas Petroleum, and Placid Oil Co., where he built his foundation in offshore operations and safety management.

Known for his disciplined approach, strategic insight, and commitment to safety and regulatory excellence, Michael has consistently delivered value through operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement. His ability to lead cross-functional teams and navigate complex regulatory environments has made him a trusted advisor and leader in the energy sector.
